*Raku is a technique of firing pottery in a gas kiln, removing it at 1800 degrees, submerging it in combustible material such as newspaper or sawdust and closing the lid to burn off the atmosphere, creating the desired unique effects. It is then dunked in water to enhance the those effects. The unglazed portions of the white clay turns black as shown.
